Submarine Model-building Reflection

1. Draw a colored sketch of your submarine model in the floating, sinkingor neutrally buoyant position. Take a photo of your sketch and insert the photo below the title of your blog entry. You could also do your drawing use a digital drawing tool if you like.

2. Part of the design process, is to think of design ideas to try and then test to see how those design ideas actually work.
  • Describe any design ideas that you had which did not work as expected.
  • Describe any design ideas that you had which did work as expected.
Putting rocks inside the bottle didn't work because they always shifted. One thing that did work was putting a balloon at the top and end of the bottle to make it float when we blew air into the bottle to make the balloons inflate. But the balloon on the end didn't inflate that well.

          3.
  •  Describe at least two ways that your model works like a real submarine.
  • Describe at least two ways your model works differently than a real submarine
Things that actually work like a submarine on are bottle is that it can float and sink like one, and also it has areas that can take in water (but the water stays in the bottle the whole time and some comes out when you blow on the tubes. Things that are different are that submarines don't have balloons to make them float or sink, and that there are tubes in the bottle.

4. If you worked with a partner, describe what contributions each of you made to the project.
My partner thought of adding more holes to the bottle to make it sink quicker. We both thought of putting rocks in the bottle to make it sink. I thought of putting a balloon on the bottom, so that when it floated up that both sides would float up instead of one side and that we should put a tube at the bottom to get air to the bottom balloon (we also put at balloon and tube at the top.)
